I've went down with a group of Alliance members today and yesterday as trappers. We cleared very large portions out of the UW and didn't find a single chest in either of the two runs. That's why I'm asking this question:

Why aren't the chests spawning? Does anyone know? I have several keys I'd like to use. We've speculated that it's cause we haven't been doing any quests. Anyone know if that is it? Thanks for any help yous can give us.

went with a trapper group, spent 10 hours clearing....cleared out the chamber-quest, the smite area, did one quest in the vale, most of the burrowers and was clearing the chaos plains when we decided to call it a day (the sun was coming up and we had stuff to do)...we were doing the monuments quest....

I found 1 chest.....in the chaos plains, thats it (and I died before we could get to it).....not a single ecto...but got a horrible gold drop as did my guildee....a brown dye and a red dye.....otherwise tons of whites and blues----

went with the same group a few weeks ago and we got 3 ectos and found 2 chests....this trip was rather disappointing and we were wondering where all the chest went to----there were NONE in the smite area, not a single one!

the only good thing about this was it was free----the drops were bad and the lack of chests makes me wonder.

Chests are few and far between 1-2 per run so far.
I did get 5 shards in 1 forgemaster run, had 3 humans in the group and the rest were henchies.

Went into FoW with my ranger to clear the forest, managed to net
9 shards
4 keys
3 gold weapons
12 seeds
3 husks
4 legs
180 wood planks
123 iron ingots
67 dust
3k worth of gold

used 2 keys got
1 gold
1 purple

So all in all i made about 80k in 1 hour. Probably would have been 45min, but I took a small break to eat some breakfast. Also to note, I have been in random arena's for about a week straight, so if your an un-nerfing enthusiast try it out.

Did FOW got a gold Chaos axe and a gold shadow blade, both with 15% vs hexed

and 3 shards. So nothing to brag about.

i learned how to use new farming builds and got me i think like 4 or 5 spiders for my heros and lots of money!

I went UW with a group of 8 (let's not talk about the tanks...

) and NO ONE in the group got anything better than a purple.
The group got 2 purples, 4 blues, lots of demonic remains, lots of dust, money, lots of whites. NO chests spawned in the Ice Wastes, even with the quest active. Then we croaked in the first chamber when the 2nd wave of Dryders showed up.

free entrance fee and not having to worry about favor is nice. drops have always been kinda poor. ive always felt for 2 areas you have to pay to get into you think the drops could be better. havent seen many chests but come to think of it, ever since the change to the chest that was made where they became random( one person could open and get gold while another could get purple) there seems to be fewer chest spawns in both. saw 2 chests in FoW last night, one in the forest and one near the spider cave while doing the forgemaster quest. drops from them were both gold but just a waste of keys. either the quality of drops should be improved, the cost to enter done away with permantly or the tie to favor done away with to make going down to FoW and UW worth doing on a regular basis again. lately the only reason ive gone since nightfall was released was for armor runs for fellow guildies.

I can't complain... I've gotten 19 shards and 3 or 4 keys in about half a dozen FOW runs. I don't open chests, chests suck. Most of those were solo spider runs, all but one. The last was a 7-man guild run, clearing out everything that moved. Ironically, I got 4 shards and 2 keys on that run, and no one else got more than 1... I have no idea why everything was dropping in my favor today. Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket?

I'd never been to either place before as I figured the learning curve would be steep a costly. So I was happy to try it out for free.

I was sadly disappointed in the quality of drops. The idea that a challenging endgame area that has an entrance fee would have so many sub-max drops just seems ludicrous. I guess anet feels like the ectos make up for it all but I'm just not all that interested.

If it stays free I'd consider doing some more exploring but otherwise I probably won't bother.

I learned how to farm without spending any money, and although it took me awhile to avoid getting killed by an aatxe, I've still made at least 15k yesterday (heck, I've gotten several purple drops and at least 1 gold drop from the Grasping Darknesses). I'm not complaining about the drops.

Well I like it! I`m making 1k extra each run in the UW but then, I`m not in there for the drops I`m going for legendary survivor title on my new prophesies warrior and only got about 500k xp to go, the ectos are just the icing on the cake. :P

Well, me and a guildy went in with a Hero team and we had fun, did most of FoW, but we got tired.

Regarding farming/etc, I haven't wanted to do any of that, so I can't comment.

I've been having fun killing things, though.

In about 10 UW solo runs I got about 15k worth of loot, 2 ectos, 3 keys, and in two chest open i got 1 gold and 1 purple.

In a couple short FoW runs I got 1 shard and about 2k worth. All and all drops seem down, I can't find chest in the UW, but other then that it has been alright.

People need to remember that FoW and UW were the hardest and only true high end area of the game prior to Factions and the SF patch.
So drop items may "seem like crap" to some of you, but that's just cause you've gotten spoiled with NF and its inscribable items and free buried treasures.

Anyway, in the past day, I've goten 11 shards and 1 ecto and 4 gold items. If you want to farm to make money, learn how to do it properly with a good solo build. Otherwise, don't waste our time complaining.

I did a ton of solo and 2-man/3-man trap farm runs in the UW. Never got a single ecto. :'(

Things were better in FoW, though. Did several excellent B/P groups, got a few shards (I'm going to wait to sell them after the event is over and the economy stabilizes), etcetera.

when im not lagging or rubberbanding, with a constant 79 ping i might add, i usually get good drops.

so far.

2 golds
3 purples
about 60 steel ingots
and about 16 ectos.
